    Good tips, i must admit though I've never had to use lubricant myself,maybe I apply more force without thinking. How are you cutting the pipe? Ive found the shear type cutters do tend to crush the pipe slightly so I use a rothenburger plasitcut set (like pipe slices for copper).

    I have this LAP tester and yesterday I used it to wire up a single socket onto the other end of a radial. It reported "live earth reverse", which had me scratching my head for a bit, but the issue was actually missing neutral (had come loose from the neutral bar in the consumer unit). But at least it told me something was wrong, I possibly wouldn't have realised otherwise until I came to use the socket and had a problem.

    For a DIY’er push fit is great, but as a pro we aim for copper and use Hep where we need/have to. There’s a reason hep needs a special key, because it’s not meant to be messed about with by your average joe. In the industry speedfit is a bit of a joke because it’s known for leaks

  • @angelofranklin1
    @angelofranklin1 8 дней назад

    The danger of 13-amp socket testers is the neutral earth reversal that cannot be identified by the tester, particularly in a TNCS installation, you need to buy the type of tester that has a trip button and test each socket to ensure the RCD trips, alternately you need to check each Socket for the connections,

    • @TheDiligentDIYer1759
      @TheDiligentDIYer1759 12 дней назад

      Thank you! PEX is the more rigid pipe you buy in the 3m lengths, whereas PB pipe is the long stuff sold in long coils, much more flexible and usually used for underfloor heating. Both are barrier pipe, being a multi layer pipe where there’s a special layer in the middle to block transfer of any tiny amounts of air into the pipe work. Thanks for watching!

    • @errolmagill1611
      @errolmagill1611 12 дней назад

      I also prefer the JG brand over the others. Some say that you should fit the collars on after tightening to prevent the fitting coming loose, but I as yet have not seen this happening. The plumbing trade tends to be very slow to modernize, often mocking these plastic fittings. One point on safety, people have been known to get a finger trapped in these 🤔

  • @piedthepiper
    @piedthepiper 13 дней назад

    Nice clear video, thank you. I'm planning a bathroom refurb, I've already got it back to masonry, but the walls are all out with random bricks sticking proud here and there. I was thinking to dot n dab Jackoboard and use mechanical fixing like you've done. I'm just not sure about putting the screws and plugs into the brick work, as its a solid external brick wall. I'm also wondering if D&D is enough, or if i should bed the board on a full bed of tile adhesive to take up the variation in the wall. Any thoughts are welcome, cheers.

    • @TheDiligentDIYer1759
      @TheDiligentDIYer1759 13 дней назад

      I did a full bed of tile adhesive and screws on the masonry. Belt and braces in my view. With the random bricks sticking out, is chiselling them down an option? Or batten off the wall to give yourself a plumb wall, and just screw them? Use glazing packers and PU foam in the gaps, should give you a strong wall. Thanks for watching!

      You touched on ct1 and the suchlike, with typical sealants you would spray soapy water over the freshly applied silicon. With the adhesives - white spirit will do the same trick. Even putting white spirits on a cloth and running your finger over the bead will work. I’m sure many reading this come will already know this, but they are called Type D plugs. I believe they were used in the UK before they switched over to the current standard, called Type G. Since India was under the British Raj at the time, they were used in India too and they continue to be used in India. In India they’re colloquially called 6-Amp plugs by electricians and the most commonly used sockets in houses. Indian appliances also come with Type C plugs, which are just 2-prongs and for devices which normally need no more than 2 (or 3) Aof current. You can shove in a Type C plug into a Type D sockets, but the government is now pushing to completely do away with the Type C plugs. The other type of plug used in India is Type M. It is also a 3-round pin type plug and looks exactly like the Type D, but it’s bigger. In India is referred to as a 16-Amp plug, because it’s on circuits used for high power devices like water heaters, or refrigerators, and are on 16A circuits. Normally, while there is a single fuse on one 6A circuit, there are separate fuses on the each 16A sockets (not plugs). At 230V supply, a 6A outlet can power up to 1380W, while the 16A outlet can draw up to 3680W, both of which are sufficient for the kind of appliances you use on those sockets.

    Really helpful video. I'm just about to try Wago for the first time for some loft lights, having seen them recommended. I was a bit misled by your thumbnail though as it made it look like the Wago was a bad option, hence why I clicked to see why. I have seen some shocking (excuse pun) wiring in houses I've lived in. 70's and 80's builds seemingly had barely any regs so it seemed. I had mains wiring running diagonally behind my kitchen wall and a spaghetti junction of cables above my light fittings. These Wago's look good and am looking forward to trying them out! Thanks

    Great explanation. I have some spare lamps with plugs which I wanted to use in the loft utilising the exposed lighting cable up there. I originally thought about just connecting the lamp wires to the lighting circuit via a ceiling rose, but then though there's no fuse to protect them (am I right?). Instead, I'll create a spur off the circuit with a junction box to a round-pin socket and replace the plugs on the lamps with round pins. That should offer my lamps some protection and stop anyone in future plugging any appliance into the lighting circuit.

      I would just replace the old ones with wired smokes, much better than relying on batteries, and cheaper than wireless interlink. Thanks for watching!

    Wago, ok for lights (bulbs) and low currents. Wago is not good for high current as they connect only by small pressure and on the tangent of the wire, so small contact area. I faced so many problems with wago but never with screw terminal when well used. It is always how you use them it makes a big difference. Wago is appreciated because it is fast and simple to connect wires.

      They make Wagos that can handle 32amps and I have them connected on a 7500w 220v heater and they're just like the day I put them.

      @@wills5482 Ok, .....but wait.....after sometime they could get faulty. I faced several times problems with wago but it happened after 10 years and also depends of the environment. Anyway, happy they fit your needs. Regards.
